Services 

The Western Maryland Workforce offers a wide variety of fee free services to registered job seekers. Individuals can register for the Maryland Workforce Exchange online or by visiting a job center.

Classes

Classes and workshops are offered to assist job seekers with computer skills, job searches, career assessments, résumé writing and effective interview skills. Other specialized opportunities provide qualified job seekers with more intensive training and supportive services. View or calendar or Facebook page for upcoming events in your area.

Our Focus

A primary focus of the Western Maryland Workforce is to provide people from all backgrounds with the basic resources and tools to gain and sustain long-term employment. Individualized attention ensures that job seekers identify appropriate career options and educational/training opportunities to excel in their chosen field and career.

Western Maryland Workforce

The Western Maryland Workforce is comprised of many programs to serve your needs.  They are as follows:

1.  Adult Program – Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Title I

The Adult Program creates a workforce training program that is able to help adults with training in a wide array of skill sets. The government of  Maryland invests in this program to ensure that the future adult workforce can drive the economy. The program is designed for adults to pick up brand-new skills and generate improvements for their current and/or future careers.

2.  Dislocated Worker Program – WIOA Title I

Individuals who have lost their jobs or received notice that they will be losing their job as a result of layoffs or closure can qualify for the Dislocated Worker Program. Early intervention on behalf of the worker can help throughout an employment transition.

3. Youth Program- WIOA Title I

The Youth Program includes workforce services and programs that can guide youth towards their personal goals and help them extend their future career path. This program helps youth in achieving their personal goals and preparing for a career path of empowerment in the future.

4.  Adult Education & Family Literacy Act Program – WIOA Title II

The Adult Education & Family Literacy Program assists with basic academic skills, adult secondary school education career pathways and more. This is a program that provides services and instruction that can assist with overall family literacy and training for the workforce in the future.

5.  Wagner-Peyser Act Program – WIOA Title III

The Wagner-Peyser Act Program is designed to assist job seekers in acquiring jobs. This program handles the process of arranging job fairs, assisting with recruitment needs and finding worthy advocates for hard to fill jobs.

6. Vocational Rehabilitation Program – WIOA Title IV

The  Vocational Rehabilitation Program offers specialty programs in formal vocational rehabilitation services for individuals with disabilities. It assists in a new career path for individuals that have been affected by a disability.

7.  Temporary Assistance for Needy Families Program – Department of Human Resources 

We offer different programs for families to seek new work while receiving financial assistance over the period they are off.

8.  Trade Adjustment Assistance for Workers Program

The Trade Adjustment Assistance Program is a Federal program that was established to provide aid to workers who lose their job and work hours as a result of increased imports in their industry. We can help you apply for this program if you have evidence your workplace has been affected by imports.

9. Jobs for Veterans State Grant Program

The Jobs for Veterans State Grant Program provides employment assistance to veterans while they are seeking a new career path. Veterans services provides intervention and support for resume building, acquiring new skills and more.

10. Reintegration of Ex-Offenders Program

The Reintegration of Ex-Offenders Program provides assistance to individuals convicted of a crime in the State of Maryland. We can assist with helping these individuals find gainful employment.

11.  Title V of the Older Americans Act

The Older Americans Act insurers senior citizens can have access to employment paths when transitioning into a new career. The Older Americans Act of 1965 covers solutions for older individuals getting into the workplace.

12.  Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act 

The Carl D. Perkins Career and Technical Education Act prepares students for future career paths.

13.  Community Services Block Grant Act

The Community Services Block Grant Act is a program that provides financial assistance in communities across Maryland. The block grant will deliver assistance with addressing poverty at the community level with new programs in communities across Maryland.

14.  Housing and Urban Development Program -Employment and Training Programs

This program provides assistance in communities and is designed to assist low-income families to afford decent, safe and sanitary housing. In addition opportunities are available to gain and maintain employment through employment and training programs.

15.  Indian and Native American Programs

The WIOA programs for Native Americans are available with a series of programs that help individuals of Native American descent to access new career opportunities. We can help individuals with accessing new skills and more.

16.  National Farmworker Jobs

This nationally funded and locally administered directive is available for seasonal farmworkers and migrant workers to access new skills and improve their abilities for a new career.
